Introducing The New Supreme Wrapping Film Colors

Indy Auto Graphics uses the highest quality vehicle grade films and vinyl for all of our vehicle wraps. We use the latest state-of-the-art printing technology available on the market to produce our applied graphics and custom vehicle wraps. Understanding the difference between types of vinyl printers and how that adds to the vibrance, longevity and quality of your wrap is key in choosing a vehicle graphics company.

Indy Auto Graphics uses the highest quality films and vinyl for all of our vehicle wraps. The life expectancy and print quality of your custom car or vehicle wrap is totally dependent on the base materials used. So, we only use the highest-grade products available.

We use the latest state-of-the-art printing technology available on the market to produce our applied graphics and custom vehicle wraps. Currently, we use only HP® Latex printers, recently obtaining the new HP Latex 700 W, allowing for white ink print. We know that HP delivers the clearest possible image with vibrant colors and no banding—better than any other printer available today. We think it’s the best printer we have ever used.

Now that you have the perfect design and chosen the best suited vinyl material for the job, it is time for printing your graphics. However, using a wide format digital printer is not as easy as using a desktop printer that we often use at home or in the office. There is a lot more involved in order to create sharp and vibrant vinyl graphics when printing a vehicle wrap.

When you have approved your final vehicle wrap design, our production team will print your custom wrap using adhesive vinyl panels. These panels are usually 54” width or smaller. The size of the panels used will be based on the vehicle templates and fit of the wrap on your vehicle. High quality latex inks and cast lamination are critical to ensuring your graphics stay vibrant for the life of your wrap graphics.

Being environmentally conscience is essential to sustainability, we pride ourselves on using and offering the best green vehicle printing technology available. That technology is latex printing. Our HP latex printers allow us to offer you a true eco-friendly printed product. The color and clarity of our latex printing is the highest in the industry. Printing your wrap with latex inks allow our installers to conform the graphics on your vehicle without losing color consistency around complex curves.

Latex Printing Technology – This is the latest and greatest technology in the wrap world and uses less abrasive inks than solvent printers. Latex printers are unique in that they use multiple fans and extremely high-powered heaters to cure the ink as it is being laid down on the vinyl, resulting in prints that are 100% dry immediately after being printed. Latex printers completely eliminate the need for out-gassing (taking solvent printers 24-72 hours) which makes them ideal for the vehicle wrap industry. Moreover, since latex ink’s composition is naturally more flexible than solvent/eco-solvent ink, it’s ideal for applications requiring vinyl to conform or stretch around curves. Latex inks provide for a supple feel and application of your conforming vinyl material. As the inks sits on top of the material it allows for a more even look and feel of the graphics, even if they are stretched around complex curves.

We recommend using a printing shop that utilizes a latex printer for vehicle wraps. The print quality is exceptional, and the panels do not need to gas out for 48 hours before laminating, which means that your vehicle will not have to be down for several more days.

The 1st standout item in the 700 W has to be the white ink. Quite simply put, it is superb. The impressive ink density achievable together with the pure whiteness of the colour, exceeds expectations.

Graham – Papergraphics technician

These are the original wrap printers of the industry and use extremely aggressive, odorous inks (either solvent or eco-solvent). These printers are known for saturating vinyl with heavy amounts of ink that take a considerable amount of time to dry or “gas out”. The main disadvantage of using solvent or eco-solvent printers is that without proper time to gas out, vehicle wraps printed on these printers are prone to material failure. Solvent ink permeates the material as opposed to sitting on the surface, as is with latex inks. Solvent inks can attack the adhesive on the back of the vinyl and cause it to adhere incorrectly, which puts the wrap at risk of or bubbling, pealing or cracking. Vehicle wrap prints that are laminated too soon after printing without ample time to gas out typically look cloudy, hazy or bubbly. This is due to the gas from the ink being trapped underneath the laminate. Solvent and eco-solvent printing needs to gas out for a minimum of 48 hours prior to laminating. This will delay the printing cycle of your project by days.

If you talk to a provider that uses a solvent or eco-solvent printer and say that they print your vehicle in 2 days, be concerned. We submit that the printing shop has no intention of waiting the full 48 hours of gassing out to laminate your printed graphics before installing them on your vehicle. Laminating before gas out will certainly adversely affect the print quality and adhesion of your vehicle wrap.

DYNOchrome Is Here to Shake Things Up

Here at STEK, we pride ourselves as the industry leader in innovation. We have always been at least one step ahead of our competitors when it comes to developing new products that test the limits of what Paint Protection Film is capable of doing. When we first introduced DYNOshield to the market, it was the first PPF to simultaneously have a top coat with hydrophobicity and self-healing properties. We have also developed and introduced the first color change and patterned PPFs to the market.

While we are really proud of what we have achieved so far, we didn’t want to stop there. We wanted to do something nobody thought was possible. It took us three painstakingly long years of research and development, but here we are. We are introducing DYNOchrome, the first TPU-based chrome Paint Protection Film.

Introducing DYNOchrome

DYNOchrome is the first Paint Protection Film that perfectly captures the mirror-like metallic look of chrome. Not only does it look as good as or even better than other chrome finish options such as paint or vinyl wrap, but it also boasts impressive durability. This is because it incorporates the same technology used to produce DYNOshield, our best-selling premium PPF. Plus, we used the best raw material we can find out there to make it simply the highest quality product we have. With proper care, the hydrophobic, self-healing top coat on the film will allow your vehicle to look fresh and new for a very long time.

The technology used in DYNOchrome to give the film a chrome finish can be applied to many other colors and patterns we already have. This will allow us to create some truly unique combination of patterns and colors that nobody has ever seen before. For example, here are some of the samples we have produced to showcase the capability of our chrome finish technology:

While we can’t guarantee we will release all of these combinations, we plan to expand the DYNOchrome product line in the future with other in-demand colors and patterns.

Now let’s briefly go over what makes DYNOchrome better than vinyl film.

Unlike PVC-based vinyl film, which tends to have a very noticeable orange peel texture, DYNOchrome has a much smoother glossy texture. This becomes more obvious when the two films are compared side-by-side.

Self-healing Topcoat

Our favorite way to demonstrate the Self-healing ability of our film is to scratch them with an iron brush and apply heat on them with a heat gun.

It shows that the scratches on DYNOchrome disappear instantly with some exposure to heat, while vinyl film retains most of the scratch. Here is a close-up photo we took during this demonstration.

Exceptional Durability

So how does DYNOchrome fare with more heavy damage? To test and demonstrate it, we often use a tool called a gravelometer. It simulates being hit with multiple gravels in quick succession. Here is a video by STEK Hong Kong that shows how this tool works. This is what these films look like before and after being in the gravelometer for 5 minutes.

As you can see, the gravels were able to leave significantly more damage to the vinyl film compared to DYNOchrome.

Stretchability

Vinyl film tend to be pretty stiff, which makes the experience of wrapping complex parts of the vehicle not great. One the other hand, DYNOchrome has the same stretchiness of regular PPF, meaning you can stretch it much more than vinyl film.

In this GIF, you can see how much our R&D guy was struggling to stretch the vinyl film, and the stretched length wasn’t even close to DYNOchrome!
